Blank Canvas: 351 Indoor Art Commission

Commissioned art installation for 351 Water Street, the first new office building in downtown St. John's in more than 25 years.

East Port Properties is commissioning a piece of artwork for an indoor public art installation to be permanently displayed at 351 Water Street. This artwork will help establish a lasting legacy, celebrating the arts, culture, and heritage of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The commission, valued at $100,000, is open to all artists who demonstrate a significant affiliation to the province. It is not limited to those currently residing in Newfoundland and Labrador.

About 351:
Slated to open in 2014, 351 will be the first new office building in downtown St. John's in more than 25 years. Winning submissions will be displayed on a range of communication materials, as well as in our corporate offices in Toronto, Canada.

PRIZES
The following three prizes will be awarded. First prize $6,000, second prize $2,500 and third prize of $1,000.

The judges have been invited from a range of backgrounds;
- Representative from the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO)
- Members of the Board of Directors of Yamana Gold including the CEO
- Mrs. Jane Marrone, artist and competition founder

ENTRY PROCESS
The competition is open to any person practicing art. The initial entry is online, followed by a second round of short listed works before final selection.

The panel of judges will initially review initial entries through an online digital submission process. Following this, approximately 35 short listed artists will be invited to deliver their actual works through a regional collection process sponsored by the company.

Only works that are short listed from the initial digital submission will be reviewed for final judging. Notifications and instructions on the regional collection process will be sent to the short listed artists only via email.

KEY DATES
12 October: Deadline for online email entries, by 5pm EST.
26 October: Results of initial entry, including short listed notices and instructions on mailing of works are emailed to artists by this date.
2 November: Results of final round of judging and award notices

RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Works entered must be an original composition created by the entrant. There is no maximum size or specific dimensions for the work.

Entrants should submit digital images of the art work in PC compatible jpg file(s) with a resolution of 300 DPI or higher. The website for digital submissions is

All entrants will be required to agree to the waiver and disclaimer found in the electronic submission form in order to enter the competition.

All of the short listed works will be transported to the corporate offices of Yamana Gold in Toronto, Canada, using regional collection centres set up by the company with reputable courier firms. The cost of shipment and insurance of the short listed entries will be borne by the company.

The entrant must specify the price of works in the online registration form as part of the initial online entry. This price will form the 'catalogue selling price' (in the event the corporation wishes to acquire the work). This price is independent of shipping and insurance which will be borne by the company.

Notwithstanding the foregoing paragraph, submissions that are awarded any of first, second or third prizes become the property of Yamana Gold and none will be returned.

All artists and participants by applying to the competition, agree to participate in media interviews and any other public relation events to promote their work and the competition.

Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography is a non-profit artist-run centre committed to photography as a multi faceted and ever-changing art form. We encourage the submission of exhibition proposals from emerging, mid-career and established artists and curators who are innovative in their use of materials and approach to subject matter. Gallery 44 views photography within the larger context of contemporary artistic practices and relevant cultural issues in today's society.

Submission Guidelines
Please submit the following items 1. through 5. on a disk by mail or by email as a zipped folder to submissions@gallery44.org (images as JPEGs, video as .mov and documents as PDFs):

1. 10-12 images (both single image views and installation views) representing a recent body of work or a specific project. Image files should be JPEGs of 1MB maximum. Please do not send original work and do not use CD sticker labels.

2. An image list indicating artist name, title, dimensions in inches, medium, and year, as a PDF.

3. An artist's statement, curatorial statement, or other written description, as a PDF.

4. A physical description of the proposed exhibition, including the number of works, the space required, equipment needed and/or provided, and any unusual installation requirements, as a PDF.

5. A curriculum vitae, resume or biography of the artist(s) and/or curator (including all artists if it is a curated exhibition), as a PDF. And any other digital support material you would like to include (web links, reviews, catalogues, etc.)

6. A self-addressed envelope (SASE) with sufficient return postage for mailed submissions. Without an SASE we will not return submission packages and will dispose of submission materials appropriately.

RHUBARB “MONEY”LITERARY CONTEST – Deadline September 1, 2012
Rhubarb announces its first literary contest with a total of $1,500 in prize money open to anyone with $30.00. Fittingly enough it is for a future Rhubarb issue with Mennonites and money as its theme, in the three usual categories published in the magazine. Like the loosely defined Mennonite voices we usually publish, any creative variations on the theme are welcome.
The prizes are $300 and $200 each in poetry, fiction and creative non-fiction, and publication in the magazine. All honourable mentions will also be published and receive the standard $50 payment for publication. All entrants will receive a subscription to Rhubarb magazine beginning with the money issue. Prizes may not be awarded in all categories, at the discretion of the judges.
The judges are: Armin Wiebe – Fiction, Aiden Enns –  Non-Fiction, Maurice Mierau – Poetry. 

The entry fee is $30.00. Three poems of up to 30 lines can be submitted as one poetry entry, fiction and non-fiction are limited to one submission with a maximum of 2,500 words.

COMPETITION AND EXHIBITION

AMERICA'S PARKS Through the Beauty of Art is an exhibition competition open to all artists, the purpose of which is to recognize and promote excellence in original artworks depicting any North American park (national, state, provincial, county, city) in Canada, Mexico and The United States. Selections will be made by a professional jury consisting of: M. Stephen Doherty, Editor, PleinAir™ Magazine; Susan T. Fisher, American Society of Botanical Artists Past President and Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Art Institute Director; and Todd Wilkinson, Managing Editor, Wildlife Art Journal. Awards will include: America's Parks Curator's Choice Award, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Juror's Choice Award, PleinAir™ Magazine Juror's Choice Award, Society of Animal Artist's Wildlife Art Award, Susan Kathleen Black Foundation Floral Art Award, Wildlife Art Journal Juror's Choice Award. Additional awards are pending.

The 2013 inaugural exhibition of AMERICA'S PARKS Through the Beauty of Art is scheduled as the first of three, with others to follow in 2014 and 2015. The 2013 inaugural exhibition will premiere in Bolivar, Missouri from March 17 - April 14, 2013 at The Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art. The Dunnegan is a noteworthy museum that has hosted such notable traveling museum exhibitions as Art and the Animal of The Society of Animal Artists, Blossom ~ Art of Flowers sponsored by The Susan K. Black Foundation, Exquisite Miniatures by Wes and Rachelle Siegrist, and Paws and Reflect: Art of Canines, all of which have toured under the auspices of David J. Wagner, L.L.C. The Dunnegan has also had a tradition of hosting park art exhibits, notably, ARTS FOR THE PARKS. Coincidentally, David J. Wagner proposed the very first tour of the ARTS FOR THE PARKS exhibition, served as a Juror for that exhibit, managed the ARTS FOR THE PARKS tour for its first five years (1988-93), and served on the Advisory Board of its parent organization, the National Park Art Academy. AMERICA'S PARKS Through the Beauty of Art is an entirely new initiative, produced by David J. Wagner, L.L.C.

Original artworks depicting subject matter found in any national, state, provincial, county, or city park, or any park of any other such unit in Canada, Mexico, and The United States is eligible. Original, two-dimensional art completed in 2010, '11, or '12 is eligible. Eligible media includes: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, mixed media, pastel, pencil, pen and ink, tempera, batik, alkyd, scratchboard, and original prints (e.g., lithograph, etching, engraving, serigraph). Ineligible media includes: any media not listed above such as computer enhanced or generated artwork, photography, reproduction prints, sculpture, video. Not including frame or mat, the maximum size for entered artworks is 900 square inches. Calculate by multiplying the horizontal and vertical dimensions. Example: A 30" x 30" painting would equal 900 square inches. Early entry postmark deadline: August 31, 2012. Standard entry postmark deadline: October 15, 2012. Human Rights and Equity Offices of Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario

In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, the Human Rights and Equity Offices of Queen’s University is calling for artists, both professional and amateur, from all equity-seeking groups, to participate in a collaborative art project. Artists are asked to submit an original artwork depicting their interpretation of women’s strength and resilience in the wake of gender based harassment or violence. Accepted pieces will be incorporated into a large mosaic piece called “Woman, recreated” which will be exhibited at a show on Queen’s campus in 2013.

Project defined
A design, by award-winning Aboriginal artist Leo Yerxa, is the point of departure for this collaborative endeavor.
Leo’s design has been divided into sixty three fragments which will serve as the artist’s under painting. Artists are asked to choose one (or more) of the 63 fragments of the original painting (example, 9D or 4C) and use it as a background to an original artwork, in which they create their personal interpretation of the theme of women’s strength, resilience, spontaneity, creativity and diversity in the wake of gender-based harassment/violence. Thematic Parameters
The Mosaic Project is a visual celebration of the strength of women survivors. It steps beyond the negative imagery of passivity, abuse, assault, harassment and fragmentation, all traditionally used to represent women in human rights campaigns. Our project insists upon the strength, resilience, spontaneity and creativity of women, who recreate themselves after “picking up the pieces” of oppression. It also speaks to the power of community in the process of healing. The Human Rights office reserves the right to select representations which portray positive imagery which reinforces the idea of strength, resilience, spontaneity and creativity while respecting the dignity of represented individuals or groups protected by the Code.

Formal Parameters
We do not set parameters on the media (oil, acrylic, pastel, ink, pencil, collage, quilting, stitching, etc…) or the style (figurative, writing, abstract, expressionist, cubist, graphic, etc…) used to create individual art work. We do, however, insist that artists use the background as a point of departure. The idea is that the new work of art can be easily incorporated into the original painting without changing its original colour scheme or formal design. Art work must be created on/mounted on a canvas panel measuring 1’ by 1’, which will be provided free of cost by the Human Rights and Equity Offices at Queen’s University.

Artistic Parameters
Each submission to the Mosaic Project will be evaluated for its technical proficiency and overall aesthetic value. We encourage all skill levels to submit and participate.

Selection Process
  • All submissions will be evaluated using the above-mentioned formal, thematic and artistic parameters. 63 pieces will be chosen to be incorporated into the mosaic painting: Woman, recreated. Evaluation criteria include:
  • Does the submission respect the formal parameters of the Mosaic Project?
  • Does the submission respect the thematic parameters of the Mosaic Project?
  • Does the submission demonstrate technical proficiency?
  • Does the submission demonstrate overall aesthetic value?

Submission Process:
Artists are invited to email Meri Diamond diamondm@queensu.ca indicating which of the 63 fragments they wish to re-create. Artists may request multiple squares and can apply as a group.
Completed art work can be dropped at the Queen’s Equity Office at B513 Mackintosh-Corry Hall from 8:30 to 4:30. Artists that are unable to pick up a tile/send back their artwork in person are encouraged to write the equity office to discuss possible alternatives.

Deadlines to return completed panels:
- Early submission deadline: August 31, 2012
- Late submission deadline: October 31, 2012

Competition
At a reception held at Queen’s University in March 2013, twelve of the best pieces will be chosen by Leo Yerxa to be published in an online calendar used by Queen’s University to promote multi-faith awareness.

Workshop
If there is enough interest, Leo Yerxa will give a workshop in which artists can meet the artist, watch him work and work on their own contributions to the mosaic project

West Central Women's Resource Centre: Call to Visual Artists, Deadline July 30

West Central Women’s Resource Centre is looking for an artist to design and create an art project that can be done in collaboration with community women! 

The West Central Women’s Resource Centre exists to empower women to help themselves, their families and their community to safer, healthier lifestyles. Our home is the diverse West Central neighbourhood of Winnipeg.  We work toward achieving our vision using a Women Centered Approach, informed by the lived experience of the diverse women in our community.  Our shared vision is for a healthy, sustainable, equitable, just and peaceful community where women’s knowledge and experience is valued and respected. Our vision includes women having hope and strength while living out equal social, economic and political rights.


Relevant Information for Artist:

Artists interested in creating an original art piece for the West Central Women’s Resource Centre are called to submit a proposal for our consideration.  The art project must use a participatory approach by engaging community women who access our centre in an act of artistic creation that is unique, regardless of skill level. 

The artist is asked to take the lead in the creation of an art project while at the same time include community women in the process of creation. 

Work Media:  WCWRC is flexible and open to various ideas.  We may consider a mural, collage, painting, photographs, mosaic etc.  The objective of this project is to create a piece of art with some of the community women who access our centre.  The number of community women to participate in the project can be up to the artist.  Our goal is to have a finished work of art that can be displayed in our sewing room while at the same time strengthen community bonds and leave the woman at our centre with a sense of pride because of their role in the creative process.

Work Size: Artists can come look at our space and suggest ideas they think would be suitable for a large wall in our sewing room.  At present, the wall is an empty palette!

Funding: The WCWRC will provide the selected artist with an honorarium of $1225. to cover the cost of art supplies as well as the artist’s time.

Entry Requirements:

1.    Please provide a cover letter describing your art proposal.  Please speak clearly to how you will create a piece of art using a participatory approach with the community women who our organization serves.

2.    Attach images of previous art work to give our organization insight into your style and talent.

3.    An artist resume is ideal but not necessary.

Entries Due: July 30th, 2012

Timeline: WCWRC would like the project to begin in early August with the hope of having a completed piece of art to display in our sewing room by August 31rst, 2012.

Selection Process:  A small committee will review the art proposals and notify the selected artist by Friday Aug. 3rd, 2012.

Selection Criteria:

Appropriateness of project to the audience at WCWRC
Participatory nature of the project
Overall professional quality and aesthetic of work. Creativity.
Ability to accomplish an artwork for public presentation in a timely manner and within the designated budget
Longevity of the art piece

Kevin Schmidt (b. 1972) is a Vancouver based artist who works across diverse media, but primarily in photography and video. Since graduating from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 1997, Schmidt has received considerable national and international recognition. Recent solo exhibitions include Epic Journey at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal, Montréal (2011); A Sign in the Northwest Passage at The Power Plant, Toronto (2011); Wild Signals at Galerie Barbara Thumm, Berlin (2009). He has participated in a number of significant group exhibitions including Untrue North, Yukon Arts Centre, Whitehorse (2012); unfinished business, Waterside Project Space, London UK (2010); and Sentimental Journey, Contemporary Art Gallery, Vancouver (2009). Confederation Centre Art Gallery: Call for Proposals for Permanent Public Art Work, Deadline July 15

Confederation Centre Art Gallery seeks submissions from Canadian artists for permanent outdoor sculpture

The Confederation Centre Art Gallery (CCAG) is seeking preliminary proposal submissions from Canadian artists for a landmark permanent outdoor artwork to be installed on the plaza of the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, P.E.I. The work, to be completed and unveiled by July 2014, will commemorate the Confederation Centre's 50th anniversary. The work should respond to the Centre's mandate to celebrate the evolution of the country and to inspire through the visual arts, an appreciation, understanding, and enjoyment of Canada's diverse cultural heritage through an enhancement of the Centre's public space. The selected work would update and complement existing outdoor sculptures and architecture. This is a major, national-level commission, with projects able to draw upon a commission budget of up to $200,000 for artist fees, fabrication, engineering consultation, shipping, and installation expenses. Preliminary proposal submissions are due July 15, 2012.

Selection will be determined through a two-tier process. An advisory council with national representation will select a shortlist of approximately five proposals in August 2012. Shortlisted artists will be asked to provide further elaboration of proposals, as well as models, by October 2012. Shortlisted proposals will be exhibited in December 2012. Public input, final selection and budget approval will follow early in 2013.

About the Confederation Centre of the Arts:

Confederation Centre of the Arts was founded in 1964 as Canada's National Memorial to the Fathers of Confederation, who gathered at Province House in 1864 to discuss the creation of our country.

Every Canadian played a part in the establishment of the Centre: each province and the federal government committed 15 cents per capita for a total of $5.6-million to construct the huge building. This was the first time that all provinces agreed to give money for an institution outside their boundaries.

Covering an entire city block, the Centre stands on what was the site of the old Charlottetown marketplace. It houses several theatres, an art gallery, restaurant, and a gift shop. Open year-round, it showcases the best in Canadian visual and performing arts.

Confederation Centre is the result of a dream shared by all Canadians - to create a place where our country's history and multicultural character is celebrated, and where the talents of its people are nurtured and showcased.

Submission Requirements

Eligibility

    The 2014 Confederation Centre of the Arts 50th Anniversary Public Sculpture Commission is open to Canadian artists. To be eligible, artists must be Canadian citizens or have permanent residency status in Canada.
    Only artists with a record of experience in the creation of permanent public art will be considered for the commission.


Requirements

    Proposals must be for permanent works that will take into account seasonal conditions and be viewable for the whole year.
    They must also be accessible at all times of the day. Lighting and durability must therefore be considerations for all submissions.
    Proposals should present limited ongoing costs and maintenance requirements.
    Successful proposals need not necessarily be monumental in scale, but should have a significant visual impact on the environment of the Confederation Centre plaza and architecture.
    Proposals should respond to the Confederation Centre's mandate, representing excellence in Canadian contemporary art, as well as its existing architectural and sculptural context. They should also consider the thematics around the Centre's role as a national cultural centre and monument to Canadian confederation.
    Preference will be given to new works that respond to the specifics of the commission.
    Proposals must ultimately meet safety standards, electrical codes and other reasonable feasibility requirements for acceptance.


Proposal Package and Submission Details

All materials must be received by mail, postmarked by July 15, 2012.
Please provide:
-Drawings/images (maximum 5 pages) showing components of the work proposed, and how and where it will be placed on the Confederation Centre plaza.
-A written statement about the proposal (theme, fabrication and process details, relationship to artist's practice, to site, etc.), maximum one page.
-A proposed budget.
-Annotated images sent on a CD or DVD (maximum 20 images), identifying materials, dimensions, year, and brief description (maximum 100 words per work described).
-Artist's CV with record of public art experience.
Please note that materials cannot be returned if sent from outside of Canada.

Wow what an interesting day, weather wise: sun, heat, rain, more sun and thunder showers and more sun.  We went for a drive into Bridgewater and then to Liverpool and found a few things to photograph. It has been a while since I have tried my hand at photography so it was fun to see the colours and textures that are everywhere around us. Hope you enjoy.

2012 RBC CANADIAN PAINTING COMPETITION OPENS CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

RBC, with the support of the Canadian Art Foundation, today announced its call for entries for the 2012 RBC Canadian Painting Competition. With a total of $55,000 in prize money, it is one of the largest competitions of its kind in Canada.

Entries must be submitted by May 9, 2012 and winners will be announced in Toronto on November 29, 2012, with the national winner receiving $25,000 and two honourable mentions each receiving $15,000.

“RBC works closely with the Canadian Art Foundation to recognize and showcase emerging painters and provide them with opportunities to gain national exposure,” said Ann Webb, executive director, Canadian Art Foundation and publisher, Canadian Art Magazine. “Each year, we look forward to this competition so we can support, celebrate and uncover new Canadian talent.”

Details and rules of the competition may be found at rbc.com/paintingcompetition. The submitted works will be short-listed to 15 finalists by independent panels of regional judges. All regional jurors come together in November to determine one national winner and two honourable mentions to be announced on November 29. All 15 paintings will be on exhibit at the Power Plant in Toronto. All finalists will be featured at rbc.com/paintingcompetition.

About the RBC Canadian Painting Competition

Established in 1999, the RBC Canadian Painting Competition recognizes and supports Canada’s emerging artists. The competition nurtures Canadian visual artists early in their career by providing them with a forum to display their artistic talent to the country and hopefully open doors to future opportunity. The competition will award one national prize of $25,000 and two honourable mentions will receive prizes of $15,000 each. Along with past winners, the winning paintings of 2012 will become part of RBC’s Canadian art collection comprised of more than 4,000 works of distinguished art collected over the past hundred years.

CBC Canada Writes Competition

Competition opens: September 1, noon EST.
Deadline to submit: November 1 at 11:59 p.m. ET

This prize is awarded once a year to the best original, unpublished, short story submitted to the competition. All Canadians can participate.

The competition is blind. A jury composed of well-known and respected Canadian authors will select a 1st place winner and 4 runner-ups.

The First Prize winner will receive $6,000, courtesy of the Canada Council for the Arts, and will have his/her story published in Air Canada’s enRoute magazine and on the Canada Writes website. He or she will also be interviewed on CBC Radio’s The Next Chapter with Shelagh Rogers.

The 4 runner-ups will each receive $1,000, courtesy of the Canada Council for the Arts, and their stories will be published on the Canada Writes website. Submissions to the short story category must be between 1,200 and 1,500 words.

A fee of $25.00 (taxes included) for administration purposes is required for each entry.

Banff Adventure Photography Workshop
Program dates: September 23, 2011 - September 26, 2011

This workshop provides an opportunity for emerging photographers to work with experienced outdoor professionals during classroom seminars, critique sessions, and outdoor fieldwork. Participants will work towards using existing knowledge of their own photographic equipment and digital software to obtain the best results, and to enhance their skills. The sessions are intense and interactive, with the goal of highlighting personal shooting styles. The intent is to investigate the 'why' and 'what' rather than the 'how'. Participants are expected to have a high degree of familiarity and comfort with their camera and software, and also should have an existing knowledge of the fundamentals of photography.

Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) is undertaking a unique project to connect with new Canadian women who are visual artists or craft artisans.
Working with MAWA’s Program and Administrative Coordinator and Executive Directors, the Outreach Coordinator will plan a series of craft workshops led by new Canadian women artists. The goal is to expand MAWA’s community, to provide employment to newcomer women artists and to share unique craft skills with the larger arts community. The Outreach Coordinator responsibilities will include meeting and establishing relationships with newcomer communities in Winnipeg, meeting with newcomer artists, hiring artists, arranging for translators if necessary, promoting MAWA and the craft workshops within newcomer communities, planning for necessary workshop supplies and coordinating workshops.

This position requires an outgoing personality, and excellent listening, communication and organizational skills.  Experience in public speaking or program coordination is an asset.  Knowledge of visual arts or craft based practices is preferred.  Fluency in spoken English is preferred.  Some travel within Winnipeg will be required.

MAWA is an artist-run not-for-profit organization dedicated to encouraging and supporting the intellectual and creative development of women in the visual arts by providing an ongoing forum for education and critical dialogue.  Founded in 1985, MAWA currently has over 250 members.  MAWA provides mentorships, workshops, lectures, artist talks, reading groups and informal networking opportunities to the visual arts community at large.  Staff is comprised of two half-time Executive Directors, one Program and Administrative Coordinator and one part-time Administrative Assistant.  MAWA is open Tuesday-Friday, 10am to 4pm and is wheelchair accessible.

2012 Guest Artist Series

Art City invites local, national, and international artists to submit proposals to lead workshop-based art projects at our studio in 2012.
Art City is located in West Broadway, a culturally diverse and densely populated neighbourhood in the heart of Winnipeg’s inner city. Art City is open free-of-charge and drop-in to anyone who would like to take part, engaging an average of 25 participants per evening. The majority of those who come to Art City are youth between the ages of 6 and 13 years. Older youth, adults, and seniors also regularly participate in Art City programs.

Selected guest artists will be supported in developing, managing, and facilitating their projects by a team of experienced Art City staff and volunteers. The standard guest artist format is a 5-day period, Monday to Friday, 3:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Artists will receive $1,400.00 for the one-week project. Travel and accommodation for selected visiting artists will be provided by Art City.

In addition to this format, Art City also invites proposals presenting alternative community art projects and formats to be included in our 2012 Guest Artist Series.

CALL OUT FOR ARTISTS: MOSAIC DESIGN

In this historic town of Lunenburg, the newly constructed Bluenose Academy will open its doors to the students in January of 2012. The Bluenose Academy serving students from Lunenburg and the surrounding areas including Blue Rocks, Riverport, Dayspring, Centre, Northwest and Maders Cove would like to welcome the public again to participate in this exciting journey of our new school.

We invite all the public including artists, designers, students, parents, everyone to submit designs for a mosaic to be installed in the foyer of the school building. The theme of the mosaic celebrates the merger of four schools; Lunenburg Academy, Lunenburg Junior & Senior High, Riverport and District Elementary and Centre Consolidated School. The design must be in the boundaries of the ideas put forward by the students, which can be found below.

The school community will vote on the design submissions and the winning design will be permanently installed on the floor of the entrance lobby of the Bluenose Academy. The mosaic will be made of 3/4-inch square tiles with a limit of 22 colours in an 8 feet diameter circle. Please carefully review the ideas/images and examples of mosaic tile projects of other schools and BE CREATIVE!

Feel free to include description for your design submissions. The winning designer will receive a one of a kind local earthenware platter by the NSCAD-Lunenburg Artist in Residence, George Cho.

Archie Bray Foundation announces that it is holding the fourth annual international call for entries, Beyond the Brickyard. The selected works will be exhibited at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena. MT, January 2012. This year’s exhibition will be juried by 2011 Voulkos Fellow Richard Shaw. The competition is open internationally to ceramic artists 18 years of age or older. Artists may submit up to 3 works for consideration, and up to 2 images of each piece (one complete photo plus one detail or alternate angle). All artwork must be available for sale and available during the time of exhibition. Submitted artwork must not exceed 36” in any direction. Submissions to Beyond the Brickyard will only be accepted online. The cost of entering Beyond the Brickyard is $35 USD for up to 3 works. From the successful entrants, two awards will be selected: Juror’s Choice Award: $400 and Director’s Choice Award: $400
